Coed Baby Shower Ideas: Including Daddy-To-Be In The Fun!

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

When a woman becomes pregnant, it is a special and momentous occasion! Everyone scrambles to throw the new mom a shower; but how many times are the fathers included in the festivities? Expectant fathers get just as excited as the mothers when it comes to the thought of their new child, and putting together a shower that gets dad involved too can be a wonderful gift. Take a look below at just a few of the many coed baby shower ideas you can use to throw the ultimate party for the coming child.

Some Fun Coed Baby Shower Ideas

It isn’t as difficult as one might think to include the men in the shower festivities. As long as the new mom doesn’t mind the boys being involved, there are a number of coed baby shower ideas that you can implement in her party. Be sure that you include plenty of games that don’t center around mom, but rather around the baby. Since showers are usually made up of all female parties, you may have to get a bit creative to keep things from getting uncomfortable.

One of the best coed baby shower ideas that we have found, is to have a contest in which the men and women have a baby diapering race. Split the room into two teams – men versus women. Each team gets a baby doll, a cloth diaper, and three diaper pins. The object of the game is for each team member to take the diaper off of the doll, then re-diaper it as quickly as possible. Once one person has completed their task, the next team member gets a turn. The team which finishes first gets a prize. The same coed baby shower ideas can be played with just the men. Every man for himself gets a doll that they have to diaper as quickly as possible. The “father” who finishes first, and manages to get the diaper to stay on the doll, wins a prize.

Other coed baby shower ideas include bottle drinking contests, diaper bag packing contests, and any other game you can think of which will be fun for both sexes. Keep in mind that the more competitive you can make the games, the more enjoyable it will be for the men. Whatever you may come up with for your coed baby shower ideas, don’t forget to tell guests to bring a gift or two for the new father, as well. After all – it’s his shower, too!

If you’re trying to plan a baby shower for a friend or family member expecting a new addition, but aren’t quite sure how to come up with the right theme, then you need to read on to see our list of some of the most popular baby shower themes. One of the most important things to remember when choosing the theme for your shower, is that you are only limited by your own creativity. There’s no limit to how creative your baby shower themes can be; and the more creative you get, the more memorable your friend’s shower will be.

Popular Baby Shower Themes

One of the most popular baby shower themes is the rubber ducky theme. Perfect for both boys and girls, and inexpensive enough to implement on any budget. Small yellow rubber ducks can be bought at most any party store for just a few dollars per dozen. You can float them in the punch bowl, place them on blue table runners to create a swimmingly creative look.

Other popular baby shower themes include a red wagon theme, in which party favors are placed in little red wagons at every table; and gifts are piled into a large red wagon which can be used when the expected baby is older. Cups and plates are bought in various shades of red, and you can even have cakes made to look like the old-fashioned radio flyers. You can also tailor your baby shower themes to match whatever theme the mother-to-be has chosen for her nursery. These custom baby shower themes are always a big hit, and guests can be instructed ahead of time to bring gifts that match the theme.

You can also tailor your baby shower themes to match the season. This is especially popular when the baby is due close to a holiday. If a child is scheduled to be born during the winter, for example, you can have either a Christmas themed baby shower, or even a winter wonderland theme. This also works for any other holiday. Independence Day births can be decorated with red, white, and blue baby shower themes; Valentine’s Day with red, white, and pink; etc.

As you can see, choosing baby shower themes is only as limited as you choose to make it. There are virtually thousands of different ideas for baby shower themes, and any party store you visit will be able to show you examples of dozens of themes you can choose from. Just remember to personalize your baby shower themes to the mother having the shower, and your party is sure to be a big hit!

Baby Shower Decor

Looking for a surefire way to have everyone talking about your great baby shower weeks after the event is over? Here’s the simple answer: set the mood from the moment the ladies walk into the party with fabulous decorations. Attractive and fun baby shower decorations add to the energy and fun of the event, and the secret to successfully choosing these decorations is simple: Set a theme! Having a theme instantly answers questions about all the other parts of the party: color, general decorations, wall decorations, table decorations and food.

Baby Shower Theme

There are endless theme possibilities. Let your imagination and circumstances guide you. Here are a few ideas to get the creative juices flowing:

– Nursery Rhymes – Classic.

– Tea Party – Perfect if you know the baby is a girl.

– Disney Characters – We all have fond memories of our Disney pals!

– Diaper Party – Send out diaper-shaped invitations, use diaper cut-outs in the decor, and have guests bring diaper packets.

– Stuffed Animals – Who hasn’t fallen in love with at least one stuffed animal?

– Barefoot and Pregnant – Is the expectant mother the first one in her group to have a child? Let her know everyone’s behind her by asking guests to come to a “Barefoot and Pregnant Party” dressed in stuffed shirts to signify their “pregnancy” (yes, even the male guests!).

Color

Let your chosen theme help you select the color for the shower. What if your theme is color-independent? Then you can always fall back on the old stand-by of allowing blue to signify an expected boy, pink for a girl, or either yellow or green when the baby’s sex isn’t known. White has also emerged as a popular baby shower color to symbolize innocence and purity. Whatever color or colors you decide on, let them help to unify the other elements of your shower.

General Decor

Whatever theme you choose, there are items almost every baby shower should have. Balloons, streamers, and banners set a festive tone, and displaying balloons in front of the house will also help guests identify the location of the baby shower.

There’s no better way to remind all the guests of the real reason for the get-together than by having a completely “done” baby crib near the entrance to the party. Then, not only is the tone for the event set perfectly, but the baby crib can also be used as a stunning gift table.

Table Decor

A baby-themed tablecloth with matching disposable tableware, baby cloth diapers as placemats, and themed centerpieces are popular baby shower decorations. For unique centerpieces, use stuffed animals holding small baskets filled with baby shower favors.

Other options for table decorations include a diaper cake, and a vase of fresh flowers with the color of the theme. Decorated diapers hanging on a clothesline, baby bracelet napkin holders, cookies in the shape of babies or animals, a stork placed outside the door, and baby figurines will add to the light-hearted spirit of the event.

Matching tableware such as plates, cups, spoons, forks, and napkins in the same color are simple and effective ways to round out the theme. Many party supply stores carry a wide variety of these items for the shower. White tablecloths sprinkled with animal-shaped confetti completes the table.

Food

Food selections can be either home-made or store-bought. A white layer cake, macaroons, white chocolate candies, marshmallows, yogurt-covered raisins or nuts can be purchased easily at the local grocery store. Milk served in clear plastic baby bottles and vanilla ice-cream are another great idea. Favorite party favors for the guests are white chocolate-covered almonds placed in white baby booties and tied with a white satin ribbon.

There are so many ways to creatively decorate a baby shower. Be an imaginative host and use this occasion to not only honor the expectant mother and her child but to sharpen your creative muscles. Hopefully, the ideas we’ve presented will prime the pump and set you on your way to a successful shower. Have fun!
